On August 27th, 2023, Amy Sevenhuysen passed away after a courageous fight with cancer. Amy bravely walked the path that we all must walk one day, and did so with an unshakeable faith in her living saviour who loved her, died for her, and prepared a place for her.
Amy and her husband Jordan had been middle school teachers at Vernon Christian School since 2015. The impact that both of them have left – and continue to leave – on the entire VCS Community cannot be measured.
For those of you who had the privilege of knowing Amy, you remember her as a woman of strong faith, incredible character, unbridled joy, and a deep level of caring for anyone that she came into contact with. Those who taught with her, or had the fortunate experience of being one of her students, know that each and every person that passed through her door was seen, heard, and loved.
We continue to grieve and mourn Amy’s passing, and yet find peace because of Jesus’ resurrection and ultimate victory over death. We know that Amy’s identity is in Christ; therefore, we have the assurance that she is now in His loving arms, released from all pain. One of Amy’s favourite lyrics during her journey with cancer was, “What is true in the light is still true in the dark.” We recognize that life without her is very dark for our beloved brother Jordan and we would like to work together to bring some light as we approach the anniversary of her passing.
To honour Amy’s legacy, we are asking you to consider a gift to this project: a beautiful outdoor space at Vernon Christian School located outside of her old classroom. As a Middle School teacher, Amy had a special delight and gift in helping students through these often challenging years. Please join together with Amy’s family, friends, and church community to honour her legacy by creating a beautiful exterior space for “life in the middle”. This space is intended and designed to embody Amy’s legacy in a lasting way: a place where students can connect, find comfort & community, and where we can include a lasting connection to Amy herself.
Please take a moment to check out the designs for the Amy Sevenhuysen Legacy Project, and consider what a personally meaningful gift looks like to you and your family.
