Dear VCS Society,
Welcome to the 2017/18 School Year
“But blessed is the one who trusts in the Lord, whose confidence is in him.
They will be like a tree planted by the water that sends out its roots by the stream.
It does not fear when heat comes; its leaves are always green.
It has no worries in a year of drought and never fails to bear fruit.” Jeremiah 17: 7-8
A Tree Planted…
The start of another school year is here and I’m excited to share the verses above as our theme for the upcoming year. We worked together as a staff to select this scripture in June, and it has already turned out to be particularly meaningful through the summer as our city and region have faced dry, hot conditions. I know, in fact, that some of you have been affected by the threats of wildfires. Like Jeremiah, we profess that our trust and confidence are in the Lord. We turn to him as our stream, our source of protection, nourishment, blessing, and life itself.
This passage is also meaningful as we enter our 40-year anniversary as a school community. This picture – a flourishing tree, loaded with green leaves and fruit because its roots are by the stream – provides a great image of VCS in its 40-year-and-counting mission to equip students for a life of discipleship.
Preparations are well underway at school as we anticipate the arrival of your children in their new classes. What a privilege it is for us to enter this new season, and to renew our partnership with you for the coming year in providing a transformational education for your children. We pray for God’s continued vision and provision as we serve your family in His strength.

Monday, August 28, 9:00-10:00 am
- The full VCS staff will be taking this time to start the year with a prayer-walk around the VCS Campus. As we commit ourselves, our students & families, and the buildings, grounds & spaces to God, we would love for you to join us.
New Tuesday schedule – Please note that this new schedule begins on Tuesday, September 5, our first day of school.
- As was outlined at the June AGM, beginning in 2017-18, school will start for K-12 at 9:00 am every Tuesday. Staff will be using 8:00-9:00 am as a collaboration block. Therefore, Tuesdays and Thursdays will now have a matching 9:00am-3:00pm schedule, while Monday/Wednesday/Friday will have an 8:30-3:00 schedule. Just like on Thursdays past, supervision will be provided starting at 8:15 am on Tuesday and Thursday mornings to support families scheduling needs.
Wednesday, September 6 – 6:00-8:00 pm Welcome-Back Gathering (Dessert provided)
- Bring the whole family and enjoy an ice-cream, as you meet with your child’s teacher/s and connect/reconnect with other families of the school.
Monday, September 25, 7:00-8:30pm – New Parent Orientation
- If you are a new parent to VCS, the Admin. Team requests your attendance at this event. It will provide you with greater insight into the VCS community and programs, and also provide us an opportunity to answer your pressing questions.
