After a 2 year hiatus, the North and West Zone Track and Field Championship was held once again in Kamloops at Hillside Stadium, on Wednesday, May 11, and all athletes and coaches were excited to compete. The Vernon Christian School Royals team came out strong with excellent results. The Jr. Boys relay team led the Royals by smashing the previous record for the 4x100m event by more than 3 seconds with an official time of 48.39 seconds. Relay team members Jaden O (lead), Isaac G (2nd), Zack B (3rd), and Ben T (anchor) ripped up the track to claim gold.

Ben T also finished first in the 100m, long jump, and high jump events, claiming the top junior male athlete award. Overend also came out golden in the 1500m.

VCS senior athlete Victoria B claimed silver in both the 100m and 200m sprints while Hendri R claimed bronze in both 100m and long jump.

A fantastic day for our VCS athletes! They have trained really hard and are very motivated to pursue their best. Mental preparation and personal drive to improve and compete is so important in an individual sport like Track & Field. Our grade 8s- Gabi K, Stefan S, and Andrea B- haven’t seen an event like this before, so for them to have great results and get this experience in Kamloops will be huge as they continue in the years ahead.
