The High School Intensives ‘Stretched’ module contained 2 components: biking and hiking.

The biking portion saw the students go to the Myra Canyon Trestles in Kelowna and bike on the old KVR railway line.

Students had to stop along the way to read the signs to answer questions for an informational scavenger hunt.

The hiking portion was a 3 day, 2 night trip that started at Cosen’s bay and saw the students hike 21km the first day with a net elevation gain of 1km!

The students were pushed with the elements of heavy back packs, a lot of uphill, a lot of mosquitos and a long day.

Students got hands on experience in filtering water as well.  Eating dehydrated food packs for supper was a new experience for many.

A highlight of the day was the lookout at Vernon, Kal lake and Swan Lake from the Tower lookout.

The day ended with tent camping at Oyama lake where we rested, recovered and reflected.

The second day of the hike was more level and saw us travelling 17km.  We had a nice lunch stop in Wrinkly Face provincial park, a walk in access only provincial park which overlooks Kelowna.

Upon arriving to Beaver Lake Resort, students were treated to water sports such as fishing, motor-boating, SUP, kayaks, canoes and peddle boats.

We even had a few students catch some nice fish.

Time spent around the fire and as groups in cabins was a highlight of the evening. The final day was resting, recovering, checking out and fellowship at Reiwsig Park with pizza and slurpees.

Many students were pushed further than they thought they could go.  For some students, they had to overcome physical challenges such as blisters, while others were ‘Stretched’ to overcome the mental challenge of keeping to go.
