FLOOD SUPPORT GROUP

With last year’s flood still fresh in many of our minds, one group of students committed to learning more about the flood risk that exists in our community.

After some initial communication with the city, the group set out to fill as many sand bags as they could in a single morning (they got to 300!).

They also invited Mayor Akbal Mund to come to the school to talk about how the city helps prevent floods and what they do when a response is needed.

SPCA GROUP

A group of students decided to support the Vernon branch of the SPCA during the middle school’s “Break the Cycle” week. After doing some initial fundraising, the students had the opportunity to visit and get a tour of the SPCA facilities. They learned that one of the biggest areas of need is foster homes for mom cats and their litters. One of the students is already fostering kittens, and she brought them to the school to help raise awareness at the elementary campus. Overall, the students raised $140 and donated several boxes of pet supplies to the SPCA. Way to go team!

MUSIC GROUP

The music group spent time digging deep to learn their strength and weaknesses, to determine their opportunities to serve and the threats they faced to accomplish their goals.

NOYFSS GROUP

This group raised funds on school lunch hours by selling freezies to EC  students and staff. They took the proceeds to shop for items/needs for NOYFSS.
